Ordinance Would Limit Parking Along Gallaher Boulevard
An ordinance that would limit parking along Gallaher Boulevard gained first approval from Lawrenceburg leaders Wednesday.
The ordinance is an attempt by leaders to ensure access for emergency vehicles in the neighborhood. Recent changes that limited parking along adjacent Carroll Avenue have resulted in additional cars being parked along Gallaher, thus impeding access to those homes.
Leaders explained that ambulance drivers are able to maneuver the turn at the intersection despite the congested conditions, but that response times are slowed considerably.
They said that there is not enough space to allow access for fire trucks, which could be tragic in the event of a house fire.
The ordinance would make it, “Unlawful for any person to park a motor vehicle or vehicle of any kind on Gallaher Boulevard from Carroll Avenue to the first house on the south side.”
The ordinance must gain approval on a second reading before becoming effective. It will likely be brought for a vote during the board’s Thursday, December 4, 2014 meeting.
